Relieve mombasa residents of transport hitch


Likoni residents who walk to work, are forced in the morning and evening to use the Liwatoni bridge.This announcement was put on short notice and many residents of Likoni are spending a lot of time walking and have to dig deeper in their pockets to pay for transport after crossing the bridge because the bridge takes them far from where they reside. When it rains, there is no shelter for the people crossing the bridge and women and children are drenched in the rain.This could cause them diseases as the month of may has been forecasted that there will be a lot of rain.This week another shocker was revealed when the transport minister announced the closer of kibarani to facilitate the building of a bridge.This is an understatement.Kibarani is the only way to Mombasa town and the shortest.To tell residents to use the port of mombasa,by passing inside the port, is to tell the matatu transporters to increase more fare to customers.Others have been told to use Mavueni-Kaloleni route which is the longest to mombasa town.Kenha is constructing a new bridge that will interfere with the traffic flow for the period of 18 months.The engineers would have started building the bridge on one lane in Kibarani leaving the other lane to be used by vehicles.What about the residents who walk to work? Will they be forced to use the port of mombasa which is accessed by a port pass or pass through Kibarani? What about if a residents disemberk from the vehicles while enroute to their destination in the port? Will this not be a security breach? If Nairobi bound traffic are allowed to access the road using small vehicles,why not Mombasa bound vehicles going to town?Some of these developments being brought are good for Mombasa residents but they make residents dig deep in their pockets and this is during this time of Corona pandemic when many people have no jobs or food.Some of these directives are amazing and strange.Let development be brought to Mombasa County, but let the residents of Mombasa County​ not be inconvenienced in transport.
