EARLY CAMPAIGN POLITICS COULD DERAIL DEVELOPMENT IN KENYA

EARLY CAMPAIGN POLITICS COULD DERAIL DEVELOPMENT IN KENYA Politicians have started early politics. This has been seen in the recent by elections where there were winners and loosers. The winners are bragging day in day out in social media that they have the numbers. This is not the interest of wanjiku who is the common mananchi.wanjiku needs a job, security, food, good education, good hospitals, good roads, and good housing. But our leaders are not minding that the country had been closed just a month ago and have started intensive campaigns. These campaigns are the ones that made many leaders contract covid diseases and some leaders have not recovered todate.Let the next parliament pass a bill that should an M P or MCA die 1 year to elections, no by elections should be held. by veronica onjoro

Radios have deviated from their key duty

Radios have deviated from their key duty Popular local radio stations have turned into betting machines.      By Veronica Onjoro IN SUMMARY Whenever you turn on the radio, you are asked to send money and win, say, Sh100,000. The government should bring back sanity to radio broadcasting and stop this blatant gambling that is destroying our society. Radio has the widest audience footprint, reaching millons of people. In Africa, it has the widest geographical reach and biggest audiences compared with the internet, television and newspapers. It is free.  However, popular local radio stations have turned into betting machines. There are no jobs, Covid-19 is ravaging the communities and the economy is yet to recover. But whenever you turn on the radio, you are asked to send money and win, say, Sh100,000. A little arithmetic: With 500 people sending Sh100-500 per day and only one winning per programme, how much do the stations rake in? The government should bring back sanity to radio broadc

T V stations are nowdays are boring

T V stations are nowdays are boring Children and the youth have closed schools and are home. But the bone of contention is  that  T V stations are insensitive to children on holiday. Instead of showing children's programs that will educate and entertain them,T V stations are busy showing interviews being conducted, talk shows and news roundup.During the 90's children could  enjoy very good films showing a lot of entertainment, such as films, cartoons, drama and songs etc The Kenyan films which can entertain children and youth include kitchen toto,Rise and fall of Iddi Amin,Sarafina, Entebbe raid, Constant gardener, shuga,Kibera kid,Born free,Toto millionaire,To walk with Lions, Toto's journey.South African films include  Tsotsi, The God must be crazy,Cry freedom,Shaka Zulu, Sarafina.Others include Cinderella,The sound of music,Mary Poppins,Pinacchio,Lion king,The beauty and the beast, return of Jedi,Snow white and the seven dwarfs,Jungle book,The muppet movie,Bambi,The black s

Declare tree planting a national exercise

Declare tree planting a national exercise Let the government declare planting of trees as a national disaster so as to save Kenya's environment and life.Environmental conservation is key to Kenya's development.Farmers in the Country should take advantage of the rain to plant as many trees as possible. There are many by product of trees which are beneficial to human beings and the environment. One of the most dangerous and unsettling effects of deforestation is the loss of animal and plant species due to their loss of habitat. Not only do we lose those known to us, but  those unknown, potentially an even greater loss.Seventy per cent of Earth's land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes. The trees of the rainforest that provide shelter for some species also provide the canopy that regulates the temperature, a necessity for many others. Its removal through deforestation would allow a more drastic temperature varia

Let Counties copy Singapore in garbage disposal

Let Counties copy Singapore in garbage disposal Counties are having very big budget in in travelling abroad and also earn hefty travelling allowances. Some Counties have stopped their MCA's from travelling anymore because they have exhausted their travelling budget. But the elephant in the room is the garbage in every County which are becoming growing and becoming an eyesore. They are becoming bigger and bigger everyday while emitting foul smell.Singapore is a small Country with has little space. The garbage in the whole Country is collected and driven to a very tall building which incinerate the trash collected daily and burnt in 1000° degree Celsius. The burning goes on for 365 days and generate heat which end up lighting the whole Country and harness the heat, this does not hurt the Country. As a result the Country is cleaner, beaches are cleaner and the environment is the cleanest. When they burn nylon the smoke is filtered and emits clean air.90% of trash disappears and turn to ash

Let coast hotels promote domestic tourism to curb unemploymen

Let coast hotels promote domestic tourism to curb unemployment April,August and December are the peak period of hotels industry at the coast and upcountry towns. When hotel owners are interviewed during this time, they report that their hotels are fully booked and surprisingly mostly by Kenyans. International tourists coming to Kenya have declined by half since 2011.So it upon the hotel owners to take advantage of domestic tourists. But  come January, may and September hotels report that their hotels  are empty and they are laying off their workers. This is immaterial. Cotu and FKE should protect workers from such harassment at all cost from being laid off during these months off peak months. Why don't they save for the rainy days instead of laying off their workers every now and again. Alternatively the workers can be trained like the insurance agents who lure and recruit people for the various insurance policies, by selling the packages of like one day,one week,a month to busine

Let Parliament pass a law prohibiting employers from requiring years of experience

Let Parliament pass a law prohibiting employers from requiring years of experience Every application in the newspaper, magazine, social media and advert in Kenya require experience.Suprisingly the same job seekers will still be put on probation for 6 months others 1 year while others 2 years to look into their work and employ them permanently. Therefore it is an abuse to require experience of 5 years to 10 of a  needing a job and this person is a job seeker.Let Parliament, Senate and Federation of Kenya employer enact a legislation to remove the requirement of experience whenever an advert for a job is put in the media so as to minimize or stop victimization of jobseekers.Every employer is adding skills to his or her employees.  By Veronica onjoro Mombasa

EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN AFRICA: THE CASE OF SUSTAINABILITY

EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN AFRICA: THE CASE OF SUSTAINABILITY ABSTRACT Climate change increases the costs of development in the poorest countries by between 25 and 30 percent. Sustainable development emerged as a unifying concept in international relations almost 20 years ago with the publication of the report of the Brundtland Commission. Since then, and especially because of the Rio principles and Agenda 21 and the World Summit on Sustainable Development, has won almost universal acceptance as a principle. Climate change has traditionally been characterized as an environmental issue and is now affecting every country on every Continent. In Africa climate change is already being felt by rising temperature which has affected the health, livelihoods, food productivity, water availability, and security. According to the Climate Change Vulnerability index for 2015, seven of the ten countries most at risk from climate change are in Africa. Africa has seen a decrease in rainfall over lar

MCA'S IMPEACH MORE GOVERNORS

MCA'S IMPEACH MORE GOVERNORS Under Article 174 of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, devolution was intended to transfer control from the central to local governments, to empower citizens and enhance their participation in the management of their own affairs. But surprisingly governors have myriad of problems. These problems include lack of enough health facilities and charging citizen very highly to access these facilities. Governors are accused of living large, as some have built mansion from unknown sources of funds. Counties lack job creation, basic needs which include, food, nutrition, health services, education, water, sanitation, shelter,a clean and beautiful environment. Governors are accused of corruption because of allegation of embezzling of funds and not knowing how to manage the formal structures of government. The new system of government, has also created a new sets of elected representatives and bureaucracies, which is costly duplication of goods and services (World Bank). An

Importance of trees in our lives is prominent

Image
Importance of trees in our lives is prominent The prevailing situation in the world and Kenya at large has set the environment back in many ways.During the Covid-19 period, people were told to stay at home and and there was no mention of maintaining the environment.Trees provide food, medicine, shelter, rain and furniture etc.ln some communities in Kenya when a child is born,a tree is planted so that when the child reaches secondary school, the tree will be used to pay school fees for the child as another one is planted. As the rains have started,it is a high time people were encouraged to plant trees for the benefit of the economy. A visit to the rural areas, you find that trees are very few and this inconviniences farmers that when they have to fetch firewood, they have to make a trip to the forest. The government should encourage schools, colleges, University and institutions to plant trees in their premises and in the areas lacking trees. There is a demand in Traditional med

Institutions and schools should teach about Corona virus disease for 15 minutes per week

Institutions and schools should teach about Corona virus disease for 15 minutes per week. The arrival of the coronavirus pandemic in Kenyan in March last year altered how people move around the country and associate with each other.Schools, colleges,Universities and work places were closed.People were told to stay at home while others worked from home.Only essential services were being provided. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the entire globe and continues to alter life as we know it.Over 18.3 million cases and 694,000 deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded worldwide. The government announced measures aimed at keeping the pandemic away. These measures included wearing masks, washing of hand and sanitizing, keeping 1 meter distance away.no crowding and temperature of students taken before they start classes.Students would be sensitized against sharing of personal items and maintaining hygiene always. Therefore it is prudent for schools, colleges and institutions to spare 1

A win for Vice-President Kamala Harris is a win for women in the world

A win for Vice-President Kamala Harris is a win for women in the world President of United States Joe Biden was former President of United States Barrack Obama vice President, therefore Vice -President Kamala Harris should go all the way after the two terms to contest the Presidency of United States of America. U.S. Vice-President Kamala Harris made history as the first Black woman and the first person of South Asian descent to serve as US vice-President.American believe in her and she is a face of Unity. She promised during the campaign to fight for women’s rights and equality. There is a lot of expectation on one individual to change what was undone for so many years in America. Both of them have gone through issues but they have diversified by defeating the problems and becoming winners.Let us hope that Vice -President Kamala Harris will promote women issues such as education, less gender violence, unemployment, racial equity and Africa in general.Let her look into the le

EDUCATION IN MOMBASA COUNTY WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE LIWATONI BRIDGE

Image
EDUCATION IN MOMBASA COUNTY WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE LIWATONI BRIDGE  Residents of Likoni arenow faced with transport hitch. They have to wake up early in order to reach their schools as teachers or as students but the elephant in the room is the liwatoni bridge. They are forced to walk to the bridge then walk another kilometer on the bridge, then either walk again to their schools or to their places of work.Teachers and students have complained that they walk for long distances to and fro in the morning and evening, that some teachers are contemplating moving to teach schools around likoni area.Students also walk for long distances and end up sweating when they reach their destinations.Let Kenya Ferry consider teachers and students to use the ferry during rush hours to save the teachers and students from reaching their schools late.On top of this problem it has also become expensive to reach the bridge then again walk on the bridge then take a matatu or tuktuk again to your final desti
