Secondary school Principals' conference should discuss more pertinent issues
The secondary school principal conference has just ended in Mombasa and there were many
deliberation but most emerging issues were not discussed. Some of these emerging issues are missing students, death of students in schools, fire in schools, drugs, pregnancies and how to curb or prevent them etc Principals should invite experts in those fields to give them talks and skills on these emerging issues. When students go for breaks or half term they meet different people or the public out there who, some are not good. Also the social media is also fanning students beehavior. As the Principals were in schools 30-40 years ago, they do not know the recent tricks students have invent. The latest is making biscuits made of cannabis sativa birth marijuana. Therefore it is prudent to be given the latest information by experts on how to curb these vices or problems during such conferences.Lastly drugs in schools is the problem which does not end.Talks on how to detect drugs or see signs of drug users should be known to all Principals. Also let Principals do a seminar to their staff to enlighten them on what was learnt in these conferences,so that the knowledge which is power is passed to the staff. The public is a stakeholder as they are also parents and the community around the schools. Therefore the next conference should be of learning and being enlightened by experts on these pertinent issues, so that education standards are maintained and students in schools are safe.
