Let bullying in schools and other places stop
Let bullying in schools and other places stop
There was a horrific story of a 15-year-old Form Two
student at Nairobi School who was allegedly to have been assaulted
brutally to the extent of suffering brain damage has kicked up a storm
in the newspapers, and social media. The student, who is said to have been
beaten by prefects, is to undergo a brain surgery as a medical
examination conducted on Monday revealed fluid in the brain. The student
claimed to have been beaten up repeatedly by prefects. His condition
deteriorated leading him to being withdrawn from the school. The bullying
has ignited a huge debate in Kenya.A bully is a person who is insecure
or feels powerless and is not happy with him/herself.They intimidate
others as some come from dysfunctional homes. They hide their own
weakness and find a weakness in others so that they can expose. They take
the attention off themselves and make themselves feel better by trying
to feel that they are more powerful than others.Bullies need to gain
control of their surroundings.Bullying at home trigger bullying in
school and work places.A person who bullies others gets what they want
when they bully others, reinforcing bullying behavior by intimidating
and controlling. But bullying still goes on but has different names in
the society.ln matatus, some touts bully passengers. At places of work
bosses bully their Juniors eg intimidating them or serving them with
letters of show cause why to assert their authority.Bullying is still
with us,years after school. In political forum, elected leaders bully
those whom they see as enemies by denying them a chance to air their
views. There have been a furore over two groups of jubilee party, namely
kieleweke and Tangatanga. These two groups have also bullied those they
percieve as not in their camps by issuing them threats and
altimatum.lt's actually a misconception that bullying is something that
only happens at school.Bullying sometimes follows people into their
adult life. Bullies intimidate others verbally, mentally, emotionally,
and sometimes physically. Dealing with a bully is something most people
have been forced to do at least once in their life.Bullying is something
that you can experience within your family or even while you are at
work. While it is common that some kids who are bullies eventually learn
their lessons and change there are others that grow up to be adults
that act in the same inappropriate way. Those who bully suffer from lack
of self-esteem, depression,cause teen suicide, resignation,lack of
interest in school or work and causes problems socially etc Those who
bully need therapy.Early intervention is good. Counsellors should help
people who have the habit of bullying others.Bullying has some
similarities to corruption as it is destructive in the society as it
leaves a permanent mark in the life of a person.Bullying should be added
to be offenses in Kenyans law.
