Nomination have exposed a lot of unpreparedness
Nomination have exposed a lot of unpreparedness
Most of the nominations have been done by parties and very few are still pending compounded with complaints. But there has been myriad of complains from all parties regarding missing names in registers. Was it legal for parties to do nominations without the current register? Recently there was a registration of new voters by IEBC especially many youths who had turned 18 after the 2013 general elections. When parties were recruiting members, they did it electronically. For one to know which party he/she is registered, one had to log in electronically. But during the shambolic nominations they used manual voting, some used only I D's and even some officials went to photocopy papers after the voting papers were finished in stations. Some people including Sonko did not find their names in the 2013 register. My question is,where is the register used by parties to register their members? Members knew they were registered. Why were parties caught flat footed? What if losers go to court to complain of the missing names and the use of 2013 register? Was it an illegality? The lEBC register is dated 2013,when will the 2017 register be ready, where over 19 million registered recently? Will the register be ready before 2017 August elections? If people miss their names in the final register during voting in August 2017 what will happen? Will they remove the names of those who died? Let IEBC set aside a week for people to check their names, if they are correctly spelled and the station the names are appearing. Let us not witness these demonstration we saw recently about missing names. Let this elections be free and fair because unfortunately in Kenya every elections are conducted by new staff who will cite logistics if they don't do things right. l hope KPMG who have been given the mandate after the court case, will do the work thoroughly to avoid complains.
