LEGISLATE TOUTING INSTEAD OF PAYING COURT FINES
Last year an NGO published a report on how some M P's have never uttered any word in Parliament and they end up earning millions of shillings every month. But hard working Kenyan citizen who earn their daily bread by shouting themselves hoarse and end up being always arrested or fined upto ksh 5000 per month and end up getting only Kush 100 or ksh 200 per day, is not prudent.Samwel, Ali and others are always disappearing at their usual stage, when l ask where they are, am told they were arrested while touting. Some are married while others are single. They are always handed harsh fines or jail terms. When l saw the photo DN 7/2 pg 27 l was really irked. For an MP to pay fines for touts who were arrested for touting and posing for a photo with them still in prison is an insult or a ridicule. Then he ends the drama by handing the touts back to their parents at a baraza at Gachui shopping center. In the end they slept hungry. I mean handing over adult jobless touts to their parents? Are these the leaders we elected in Kenya? Is he not among those who have signed millions in retirement benefits, denying those touts jobs? Instead of arresting the problem by giving the touts nets to fish for themselves, he brings them fish. He supports the legislation which advocates for the fining and jailing of the touts instead of creating jobs, by legalizing touting by bringing a bill in Parliament to support touting. Because of lack of jobs, touting can create very many jobs in the Kenya. Let him bring a bill which will empower counties to employ touts to man bus and matatu stages. They will adorn uniforms, escort travelers, guide travellers, carry their luggage and ensure sanity prevails on our roads.ln the end they will earn salaries and they will look after their families. Our leaders need to plan better priorities for their citizens.
