Nomination have exposed a lot of unpreparedness

Nomination have exposed a lot of unpreparedness Most of the nominations have been done by parties and very few are still pending compounded with complaints. But there has been myriad of complains from all parties regarding missing names in registers. Was it legal for parties to do nominations without the current register? Recently there was a registration of new voters by IEBC especially many  youths who had turned 18 after the 2013 general elections. When parties were recruiting members, they did it electronically. For one to know which party he/she is registered, one had to log in electronically. But during the shambolic nominations they used manual voting, some used only I D's and even some officials went to photocopy papers after the voting papers were finished in stations. Some people including Sonko did not find their names in the 2013 register. My question is,where is the register used by parties to register their members? Members knew they were registered. Why were parti

This program is harmful to children and the society

This program is harmful to children and the society Programs on T V are there to pass information, educate and entertain etc But there is a program in KBC TV which is aired after news till 9.00 pm news called "behind closed doors" which does not add value to African culture. ln this program there is always a murder,a kidnappings, death, lies, abductions, fraud, torture, deception etc How do the program editors who chose this program expect the program to add values to young children and the society, with its violence in nature? In one scene a man is asked to shoot himself in the mouth and he does it,and viewers are shown blood spattered on the wall. This is disgusting. In another scene three adult children are called to be told that the man they had known as their father is not their father ! Let them look for programs which are Kenyan eg like machachari, vitimbi, vioja mahakamani,moyo,Tahidi,housewives,mother-in law etc Such programs are Kenyan owned and they educate, entertain,

Kenya's socialist or artist should stop airing their love life in the media

Kenya's socialist or artist should stop airing their love life in the media Love has now become an open secret in Kenyan media. A day hardly passes when you hear or read in the media that so and so are together, they have separated, they are no longer together or so and so is now pregnant. Surely how does someone's love  affair be beneficial to the public or be news in Kenya?People living in one house and are married, are now sending love messages to the social media to one another, this defeats logic. What do you want people to know? Proposals are now becoming stunts. Some  people are proposing on live TV,while others on live matches, while others stop vehicles on the road to propose or in social events. ls this love really genuine? That is the reason that when such people break up,they resort to do it in public. Kenyans are a busy lot and they pretend that there is love in the air but some are doing these stunts for commercial purposes. What does the younger generation lear

These nominations will have an impact in Kenya's politics for a very long time

These nominations will have an impact in Kenya's politics for a very long time 2017 party nominations have really ruffled some feathers in Kenya. Both big parties have lost very many prominent people they rely on. Some of these people are governors who command respect and positions in Kenya. We now have catch 22 situations. With the ouster of M P's,MCA',s,senators and women Reps we have no issues because they are not in charge of counties. But governors who have been ousted in their parties which command a lot of stronghold, there is not possibility of them winning the 2017 elections. They will still be in charge of counties up to August 2017,four months later. Has the government thought of the damage which may occur if these governors decide on anything sinister?.Let the national government put up a plan B on this situation. Like if a governor was defeated in the nomination, he must work with a person sent from the national government on all his transactions. Some new

Many ways of winning and rigging elections in Kenya

Many ways of winning and rigging elections in Kenya In Kenya we have digitized a lot of activities namely Mpesa, licences,Kra,income tax to name but just a few. This has led Kenyans to devised very many ways of winning nominations in a  "digitalize" way. Some aspirants kidnapped themselves, others injured themselves, others printed newspapers that their rivals had defected to other parties on the eve of elections. Some printed T-shirts with threatening words so that it seems their rivals did it. Some stuffed ballot papers more than registered voters in their constituencies. Some used the social media to taunt their rivals, give false breaking news and abuse their rivals using damaging allegations. Women were abused, beaten and injured in order to stop them from vying. Others bribed returning officers to mark ballot papers in their favour. Some stormed their rivals stronghold to protest vote rigging, when they sensed defeat so as to disrupt voting. Some used police officers to stop

U N Sh 1.2 billion will help reduce gender based violence in Kenya

U N Sh 1.2 billion will help reduce gender based violence in Kenya Violence against women is any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.   The 1993 Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women called on States to promote research, collect data and compile statistics relating to the different forms of violence against women, especially  domestic violence. It also encouraged research on the causes, nature and consequences of violence against women and on the effectiveness of measures to prevent and redress it. The elimination of such violence has been increasingly recognized as a priority for the international community. A man recently admitted that he used to locks his wife inside his house because he was insecure,as the woman may ran away. Women are the most batt

Lack of Mpesa services is an economic let down

Lack of Mpesa services is an economic let down First it started with the internet being slow, then calls could not go through and not lines not active. Then sms could not go  through. The biggest shock was when Mpesa failed to be active. We could not buy airtime nor remove money.l cannot imagine Kenya without mpesa.l met frustrated kenyans who asked questions like, what lf all the money disappears and where will we run to? Someone had withdrawn all his savings from a  bank via mobile banking and the money is hanging,he was now walking home. Safaricom has done a shock treatment to kenya. All businesses in kenya are affected. We asked ourselves why did we trust safaricom so much that we gave safaricom all our money and trust? We have been let down very badly by safaricom and this is a lesson to Kenyans. But l admire small traders who deal with ready cash. They were not complaining because they deal with hard cash. Most of those affected are working individuals who do not like moving around

Aspirants who contested in areas where violence was witnessed should pay damages

Aspirants who contested in areas where violence was witnessed should pay damages Siasa mbaya maisha mabaya. This quote was said by former President moi in one of his meetings.lt is coming  back to haunt Kenya. It is a high time politician restrained and cooled down their supporters because what we are witnessing on T V is really bad and horrible. There was a delay of ballot papers from being delivered in various counties but what supporters were seen doing is against the spirit of  patriotism (Uzalendo). How can a person hurl a desk or table in the air and smash it on another breaking the furniture because his/her party delayed to bring ballot papers or they were brought few? Some of the supporters look drunk. Let law enforcing agents take over these nominations or otherwise when schools open the children of poor parents will have nowhere  to sit and write on. Although schools are designated as polling centres by the IEBC, let IEBC reserve some money to compensate schools whose pro

Do banks want to force the government to increase the capping of interest rates?

Do  banks want to force the government to increase the capping of interest rates? KCB Group  is set for another round of layoffs in an early retirement scheme for its employees intended to save Sh2 billion per annum in staff costs. The bank, which is Kenya's largest by assets, attributed the move to impact of the recent interest rates capping and technology changes in the industry. The programme is expected to align the competing needs of adapting to a banking industry whose outlook has been dimmed by legislative and regulatory reforms, and fast evolving technology platforms that are now attracting nontraditional players into the financial services sector. Let the government intervene in this retrenchment and rescue KCB staff as the management is not sincere. Visit any KCB branch, you will notice that they have business like never before, you will also notice that all schools in Kenya have an account with KCB. KCB even has gone a notch higher by rescuing  two banks from coll

Lack of proper communication makes Kenyan miss crucial information

Lack of proper communication makes Kenyan miss crucial information There are two main people who are tasked with giving the public crucial information but because of lack of training, the information is not delivered fluently. The first person is the policeman who gives information on the site of accidents, shootouts or murder. When newsmen ask for information on what happened, the person who is tasked in giving proper information is the policeman. But because of lack of training in communication, the uniformed officials end up mumbling incoherent words or sometimes broken English on TV or radio. Let the National police service commission sponsor OCS and commanders to train in English speaking (language) to improve their communication skills. Hitherto our sportsmen and women are always winning events some abroad but when they are interviewed they cannot express themselves fluently. Let them coordinate with universities when they are in training to offer communication courses at af

Kenya's education system is at crossroad

Kenya's education system is at crossroad Kenya National Examinations  Council has claimed that it has stopped the replacement of lost, defaced and burnt certificates.  Anyone requiring replacement would instead be given a notification sheet indicating that he or she sat the examination in question. This is unbelievable. How can an organisation tasked with administering and issuing certificates decide on its own that it will not issue certificates anymore and that is its core function? Also Knec has stopped  the  remarking of candidates’ answer scripts after the release of results and banned l ate registration of candidates. A nyone requiring replacement of certificates would instead be given a notification sheet indicating he or she sat the examination in question. Is this surreal? Can knec make laws which will affect the whole country and be binding? What of students who genuinely lost certificates in fires, loss and robbery etc and they want to pursue studies outside Kenya,w

Let politician stop going to churches to look for votes but instead pray for peace

Let politician stop going to churches to look for votes but instead pray for peace A friend of mine from Tanzania on WhatsApp told me that she has read in the news that Kenya's campaign has really heated up. Yes, Kenya's campaign has reached fever pitch and has become so hot that a day hardly passes when we hear news report that in this and that county fighting  broke out between candidates for particular seat. Already some people have lost their lives while others have been injured. lt seems the incumbent of various seats are fighting tooth and nail to retain their seats by hook or crook. My maid has told me that during elections, she will go to back to her rural home because she fears that there will be violence. Can Kenyan's be trusted to do a peaceful election? Ugandans neighbours are going back to their country untill the end of elections. Will Kenya come to a standstill until elections end? This is very bad for the economy and it portends that the coming months

One NASA member must be thrown under the bus

One NASA member must be thrown under the bus NASA has proved to be a game changer in 2017 Kenyan elections politics. The choosing of a NASA flag bearer is now becoming the most hardest part. The choosing of NASA flag bearer, has to have historical implications. Traditionally Luhya's and Luo's share very many things namely boundaries, language, culture and traditions. So for the team chosen to select NASA flag bearer, to choose Raila and mudavadi will be political suicide. It will be inconsequential because one comes from nyanza and the other western counties. Both are brothers! What about eastern, coast, northern, and central regions?Already NASA lacks gender representative and then they make a choice of a flag bearers who are mashemeji, which can cause problems to NASA. To mitigate  this effect, let Nasa make  their own private agreement which will be honoured when the win. Like a prime minister and a deputy president to show equality to all members. Let their personal inter

Education has a value in a country

Education has a value in a country Collapse of any nation does not require use of Atomic bombs or the use of Long range missiles. But it requires lowering the quality of Education and allowing cheating in the exams by the students. The patient dies in the hands of the doctor who passed his exams through cheating. And the buildings collapse in the hands of an engineer who passed his exams through cheating. And the money is lost in the hands of an accountant who passed his exams through cheating. And humanity dies in the hands of a religious scholar who passed his exams through cheating. And justice is lost in the hands of a judge who passed his exams through cheating. And ignorance is rampant in the minds of children who are under the care of a teacher who passed exams through cheating. The collapse of education is the collapse of a Nation. Let assets of all counties be put in inventories

Let assets of all counties be put in inventories Everybody is in campaign mood and work output has reduced both in counties and national government. Workers in counties are now doing their work but most of the county bosses are out for campaign. Most counties have  acquired assets through national funding which need to be protected during this campaign time. These governors were the first  to be elected during this devolution and all assets and properties of the county government should be listed  and tabulated  in an inventory as there is a danger of some Governors losing their seats and the properties are not listed any where. lf they lose their seats and they have not listed what is owned by the county government, there is a danger of some property getting lost. The national government should make haste in doing this exercise as there no governor who will go for elections in August 8th thinking that he will lose his seat. This debacle happened to the mayoral chains. Many counti

12.9 million payout to M P's and senators should be stopped

12.9 million payout to M P's and senators should be stopped The budget was read the other day but inflation has hit 10.28 per cent in march up from 9.04 per cent in February. This is the highest rate since may 2012, the Kenya National Bureau of statistics (KNBS) data shows. Kenya has been affected by the drought situation and Red cross sent appeal to individuals and companies to donate food, water and clothing to the affected people. Then news that Treasury has cleared the way for M P's to award themselves sh 2.5 billion for eight months of no work is not only baffling, shocking and to say the least mind boggling. If that is the length of time the MP's five years term will be cut short  by the general elections, won't the MCA's and Governors demand for the same and make Kenya bankrupt? We are just recovering from the doctors  and lecturers strike and the bone of contention was money. Why is Treasury selective? Why reward MP's  and not doctors who devote their ti

Let Kenya also benefit from Egypt & middle East expo

Let Kenya also benefit from Egypt & middle East expo There was a report in the news that in Kisumu locals business people complained of an Egyptians expo which was showcasing and selling items from Egypt,Emirates, Syria, lran, lndia,Pakistan, Lebanon and Turkey. They were worried of the loss of income of their businesses. l also saw that the expo had moved from kisumu to Mombasa. How is Kenya benefiting from these Egypt and middle east expo? Can the authorities support Kenyans to take their goods and do expo in Egypt, lran,Emirates,Syria,Pakistan, Lebanon and Turkey the way these countries sell their goods in Kenya? Do we have a balance of trade or is it skewed in favour of these foreign countries? Kenya needs foreign exchange and it is good if  Kenya can export and sell goods like tea, coffee,Kisii soap stones, wood carvings, Maasai necklaces, tourism etc Let the foreign ministry facilitate Kenyans to go to do business in these countries which bring their goods here in the countr

Let men stop attacking women aspirants

Let men stop attacking women aspirants Men have taken advantage of women weakness and are now harassing them left right and center. Teso south MP Mary  Emaase was attacked,Kiambu MP Ann Nyokabi was confronted by residents demanding cash and her guards and aides whisked her away. A report by Healthcare Assistant Kenya reveals that the humanitarian organisation has received 433 cases of violence against women and girls in Mombasa alone. Some women aspirants have been threatened by their male opponents. Let authorities put on notice those threatening women aspirant and also come out to protect women when they are out campaigning. This August elections should see no women be victims of gender-based violence. By Veronica Onjoro Mombasa

Let CUE reconsider the decision on Executive Masters degree

Let CUE reconsider the decision on Executive Masters degree There has been a lot of debate about degrees, universities and politicians lately that it is also good to bring up the issue of executive masters degree in Kenya. Nearly all universities in Kenya offered executive masters degree and as a result of suspension by CUE many people may lose their jobs and many people who pursued this executive master's degree may suffer at their places of work and other untold consequences. This executive masters degree was intended for experienced leaders analysts, decision makers, and managers in domestic and international organizations, and in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors. The program equips public service leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to design and implement effective and sustainable solutions to unprecedented global challenges. The executive master's degree is intended for professionals who already have significant hands-on knowledge, the postgradua
