Let Television stations inform, educate and entertain

Let Television stations inform, educate and entertain Televisions are rumoured to have taken over the work of parents. Some parents are bringing up their children while watching T V. Also when a family has a get together, like supper and dinner Television is also on the menu. That is why during before and after the  general elections Televisions played a very important and crucial part of dissemination of information such as advertisements for politicians. There were also political interviews where pundits and analyst were interviewed and gave their opinion on various candidates and issues. But television has veered and backtracked from their core duty of informing, educating and entertaining. Instead of Televisions showing programs, news, education programs, documentaries like road safety, good safe driving, world news like"dunia wiki hii"  etc Televisions are tiring and bombarding viewers with betting, liquor advert and unnecessary same advert for eg 30 times a day  between 7.0

Let us set aside a reconciliation and healing day

Let us set aside a reconciliation and healing day During a homily a priest in a kitale County  narrated how he went to the local prison with the bishop to pray together with those in jail. The birth of Jesus Christ brings salvation, redemption, liberation, love, peace, progress, joy, good health, restoration, fruitfulness, fulfillment and divine prosperity. Out of an estimate of 2000 prisoners, around 200 comprised of elderly men and women, but the majority were young men and women. They were aged between 18 years to around 45 years of age. This is also happening in all prisons in Kenya. What is wrong with young people? Why are they the majority in law breaking? There  have been reports of men and women killing  their spouses out of anger and a lot of anger management need to be done in Kenya. We have very many days we have dedicated to fathers day, mothers day,Aids day, environmental day, water day,African child day etc But we do not have a reconciliation day. We should also think of th

Let Kenya not issue another Euro bond

Let Kenya not issue another Euro bond Treasury secretary Mr Henry  Rotich has defended the government's decision to issue another Euro bond whose proceed will partly be used to repay a Sh 77.3 billion ($750 million) syndicated loan obtained in 2015.This has been necessitated by international investors who want their debts repaid. The rapid rise in Kenya's public debt to more than Sh 4.4 trillion at a time when the taxman is struggling to meet his target has raised fears over sustainability of the loans. Mr Henry Rotich, if you could be following Auditor general Mr Edward Ouko's reports, you will recover back a lot of money for the treasury. Especially the unplanned trips abroad and bonding sessions undertaken by counties. He also said that there are a lot of unaccounted  for monies in the counties. Some counties have not exhausted the funds allocated to them. Another is 100 million given to bungoma MCA to attend a political meeting in Nairobi. This must be recovered or

A letter to President elect Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon Raila Odinga

A letter to President elect Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon Raila Odinga Peace be with you President Uhuru Kenyatta is the president elect while Raila odinga is claiming that the 26th October Presidential elections were flawed.President Uhuru has people supporting him, while Hon Raila  Odinga has a followers who have vowed to demonstrate and some to boycott products such as safaricom lines, mpesa, oil products and some particular milk brands. Some are also calling for succession. But President elect Uhuru Kenyatta's side is not budging. When elephants fight,it is the grass which suffers most, as it is trampled on.The grass is Kenya's job market, businesses, boycott, loss of revenue, insecurity, poverty, hate, riots, damages, University closure, counties without salaries, hunger, hate, animosity, killings etc l saw a picture in church where President elect Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon Raila  Odinga are greeting one another and smilling.Do you know that your supporters cannot greet each other,

IEBC needs qualified personnel

IEBC needs qualified personnel Before the October 26th elections there was a hue and cry from Kenyans who were urging IEBC to postpone the elections to a later date, but all this fell to deaf ears. My take is IEBC needs at least three lawyers on board. Some of the decisions made by  IEBC are wanting. This was necessitated when Mr Chebukati the chairman went to the supreme court to seek interpretation of the law.IEBC was given the  mandate of conducting free, fair, transparent and credible elections. The playing field has not been levelled. With these elections which have just been concluded, can the elections unify Kenya? If IEBC goes on to tell Kenyans to choose either to participate in voting during the elections. How can Kenyans be led by people they did not elect? In some parts of Kenya voting did not take place while others there was a boycott. In some polling stations, the highest votes were 100 per candidate or below. Are these credible elections? Votes should not be manipulated

Let IEBC accept assistance from Germany

Let IEBC accept assistance from Germany All elections which have been conducted before or after Kenya's elections have been concluded except Kenya's. And according to the recent opinion,IEBC is squarely to blame for this fiasco. Instead of bungling the next elections, let IEBC accept German's ambassador to Kenya's call to assist IEBC with technical assistance DN October 3. I qoute "Germany and other international partners will continue to support the independent Electoral and Boundaries commission in its work. A successful and peaceful poll will require goodwill and flexibility on the part of leaders and citizens" end of quote. What is the chairman of IEBC Mr chebukati waiting for? African Union has also express the desire to assist Kenya, as it has the standard and the might. Let Mr chebukati and his commission do a credible elections with the help of these international partners by calling a meeting and charting the way forward. Let him pick this low ha

Let Public service board in Counties consider all the 45 tribes

Let Public service board in  Counties consider all the  45 tribes It is a reality that public service boards are now advertising for vacancies for various categories in all 47 counties. But the sad reality is that those shortlisted for various county jobs are the locals or the indigenous people. Universities are graduating students every year apart from those who finished the universities years back and are still looking for jobs and if counties are employing people on the basis of being a local, this is a sad reality. How many people have settled in counties in which they are not the indigenous? Should their children look for jobs from where they were born years ago? When will counties employ experts from other tribes? Most of those shortlisted come from the advertising counties. This is tribalism of the highest order and devolution is now in its second phase. Some Governors are nationalists who have fought for Kenya' s freedom and the names proposed for interviews betrays the

Counselling should continue in the day to day life of a policeman

Counselling should continue in the day to day life of a policeman The work of a policeman is very daunting. When there is a riot, someone has committed suicide, the police are called. When a body is fished from a river or sea or knocked down by a vehicle, it is the police who are called, despite the sight. When vehicles have had a bad accident,it is the police who are called to give a report. Their task involve carrying dead bodies from the scene of the accidents regardless of their state. That compounded with their normal cases, the police handle in their stations or night duty also await them. Policemen and women have to be Supermen to handle those situations. Another report mentions that what affects the police lives is their love life. Most of them do not live with their spouses. Look at those serving in the far flung areas of Lamu,Pokot,Turkana,Wajir,Tana river,Nyahururu,Mandera and Somali etc. These duties affect them psychologically. That when the police were called upon recent

Homa bay County should stop open defecation

Homa bay County should stop open defecation At least three people in 10 people in homabay county do not use latrine. A study done some years ago revealed that lack of toilets contribute to lagging behind in development of a place. Access to safe human waste disposal methods is crucial for the health and wellbeing of a community. Lack of access to safe human waste disposal facilities leads to higher costs to the community through pollution of rivers, groundwater and higher incidence of air and water borne diseases. Other costs include reduced incomes as a result of disease and lower educational outcomes. According to the World Health Organisation, about 13 per cent of Kenyans do not have toilets, and go to the bush for long calls. Seventeen million Kenyans do not even have access to clean water, meaning they do not wash hands after going to the bush. This is very bad indeed.Years back in my home county l recall an open ground which was used by the community to defecate. But with the chan

Let Mombasa high court procure a metal scanner

Let Mombasa high court procure a metal scanner In life there are three places a person should visit, that is a prison/court,cemetery and hospital. These are places a person will know that freedom or health is precious. A visit to Mombasa high court reveals that there is manual search on visitors entering the court. This should not be especially in a place where justice is dispensed. Recently there was an attack on a judge and a person who had taken a case to court and that should have served as a warning to courts to be extra vigilant on people going inside the court premises. Let Mombasa high court install a metal scanner for easy search on people entering and also check what they are carrying. A Metal scanner sees everything quickly and easily and it saves time and at present in Mombasa high court, people have to line up for body and bag check which is time consuming. Some cases which come up in court have very many people going to hear them. Let funds be sourced for speedy implantati

Let National transport Authority supervise roads in Kenya

Let National transport Authority supervise roads in Kenya Those given the responsibility of managing roads in Kenya are Kenya National  Highways Authority, Kenya National Urban Roads Authority and Kenya National Secondary Roads Authority, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya; the Kenya Roads Board;the National Agency responsible for testing and research on roads; and the National Transport and Safety Authority. The board meets four times in a year and the functions of the Board are to advise the  Cabinet Secretary on— (a) standards for road and bridge materials, design, construction, maintenance and performance levels; (b) standard contract forms for works and consultancy services; (c) research and studies necessary for development and updating on public roads standards; (d) the types, sizes and usage of vehicles on roads and maximum vehicle and axle load limits for purposes of protecting roads from damage; (e) development and training of human resources required for

Justice Njoki ndungu's judgement is unique

Justice Njoki ndungu's judgement is unique I would like to query justice Njoki's ndungu's judgement which was read yesterday. She wrote 440 pages of dissent and read it in 4 hours but other judges summarized their judgement. She claimed she checked  and verified the 11000 missing IEBC forms  and personally analyzed them as she report on pages 278-403 of her judgement in the document. If it takes 2 minutes to analyze one form this translate to 11000× 2 minutes = 22000÷ 60=366hrs.Assuming she worked 16hrs per day that means 22 days for perusal only . lt is not humanly possible for her to cross check the forms personally and at the same time write the judgement from 1st September. Also she should have told us about the Bomas tallying machine which is still counting votes up to now. There was also illegal logging in the servers and passwords of those who logged in were identified, was it not a serious offence? The opposition have not been shown  the servers up to now,is it

Banks should renew ATM cards for free

Banks should renew ATM cards for free When a person joins a bank, one of the items issued is an ATM card. But these cards have an expiry date and l don't know the reason why. Banks should remove the amount charged to customers as a result of expired cards. And whose fault is it? I read features of one bank in the just ended period of review and l noticed that Non-interest income comes from fees and commissions which grew by fifth to Sh 12.9billion in the period under review. My question is, how many people renew their cards every year in addition to those who loose their cards? This is a profit to banks which must be put into consideration and stopped forthwith. Loosing an ATM card is understandable, but renewing which is not a customers fault and be charged 650/- hard earned money is not fair at all. lmagine entering an ATM card machine and a person did not know that their card had expired, is not only disturbing but unsettles someone. For how long will customers be billed for

Let motorbikes form groups like Uber

Let motorbikes form groups like Uber Most travellers prefer clean, safe and reliable transport. Transport in Kenya has evolved as there are very many types of buses, matatus and taxi companies offering transport services. But motorbike transportation is the most disorganized transport in Kenya. lt is disorganized, unreliable and has no organization which can be trusted. If Uber and other companies can set up shop in various countries here and abroad and succeed why not motorbikes transportation? Motor bikes have an advantage over cars, buses and taxis. They can maneuver in a jam and also penetrate the interior where vehicles cannot reach. Let able organization come up with motorbikes transportation which can do the job like Uber where Kenyans can call and be transported from the interiors or anywhere at a fee and money paid by Mpesa or any other means for guaranteed services. Most motorbikes as some call them border border are individually owned and can sometimes be used by robbers t

Accountability for Governors starts from inauguration day

Accountability for Governors starts from inauguration day 25 governors were not re-elected  during the just ended general elections and many reasons were advanced. The reasons include, unavailability in their offices, lack of fairness, nepotism, embezzlement, noncooperation, abusive language etc  Now that 25 new governors plus other previous 22 Governors have been sworn in, let them lay open their inauguration budget ranging from 4 million to 30 million for  accountability  and if some money was not used let it be refunded back to the county. The amount budgeted by counties for inauguration is shocking to say the least. Were they buying plots, houses or planes? Considering that most of the equipment for the inauguration were sourced free from counties, why was the budget in millions, and also many Kenyans are sleeping hungry? Most of the workers during the inauguration were county employees who were doing the jobs they are paid to do,were they paid over time on the spot? Let us not

Let IEBC clarify deductions

Let IEBC clarify deductions Kenyans of all walks of life responded to the jobs adverts of IEBC especially the youth and some got the jobs. With the PO's and DPO's ,their jobs were tough. Some did not sleep for three straight days. But the stories circulating about payment  and deductions are not good at all. Is it true PO's Gross pay is 26,000 and 30% PAYE= 7,800,NSSF=200 total deduction is 8,000 and their net pay is 18000? While unemployed PO's Gross pay is 26,000,20% PAYE = 5,200,NSSF = 200.Total Deduction is 5,400 and net pay is 20,600.Same as employed DPOs Gross pay is 23,400,30% PAYE = 7,020,NSSF = 200,Total Deduction is 7,220 net pay 16,180.Unemployed DPO's Gross pay is 23,400,20% PAYE = 4,680,NSSF = 200,total deduction is 4,880 net pay 18,520.Clerks Gross pay = 9,000 PAYE = 0000 NSSF = 200 NET PAY= 8,800.Let IEBC clarify this issue and if these deductions are true, then they are too high considering the amount P O's and DPO's will get as net pa

Kenyans should have positive thinking

Kenyans should have positive thinking I was reading the book "The power of positive thinking" and it made my day. It is written with the sole objective of helping the reader achieve a happy, satisfying, and worthwhile life. When l listen to politician, l do not get encouragement. When l pass bus companies, l see a lot of people with luggage and young children waiting for transportation to their rural areas. These people do not have positive thinking. As l went to the shops to buy ration, l found many people crowding. My neighbour who usually buys 1 kg of sugar and two kilo of rice was buying 5 kilos of sugar and a sack of rice. lf Kenyans can read this book, listened, and practiced, and the results will be invariably new life, new power, increased efficiency and greater happiness. But Kenyans have decided to frighten others by posting on social media, frightening pictures, what to stock at home and how not to walk around, leading to lack of positive thinking. Kenyans listen t

Many are people are waiting for the campaign silence

Many are people are waiting for the campaign silence The ‘traditional’ campaign normally ends at a given time before the election and ‘campaign silence’ in Kenya is two days before election day. lt is  common in order to allow voters time to reflect. The campaign silence is seen to be an important and much needed ”cooling off” period after a heated campaign to reduce tensions and potential for conflict on election day. Campaign silence includes a prohibition on media announcement/advertisement, no public rallies and the prohibition of publishing last minute public opinion polls. Also, campaigning or party identification close to polling stations is also considered to be an essential element of campaign silence. Care must also be taken that campaign silence does not prevent nonpartisan civic and voter education. The campaign period has been specified by law. Therefore there should be no campaigning on election day. Let parties finish their campaign and in those days which were spe

The nod given to chiefs to have a say on traditional marriage is outdated

The nod given to chiefs to have a say on traditional marriage is outdated The new rule gazetted on June 9th that area chiefs will from Tuesday have a say in the registration of traditional marriages which will cost 3,900/- involving people living within their jurisdiction is outdated and is not in line with the present time or century. The problems which may occur among others, include that the chiefs may not be impartial. What if the chief has a problem with both of the people who want to get married? Chiefs are only found in their offices on particular days, won't  they interfere with couples who want to get married? Some chiefs are always linked to corrupt practices, now the government has give them food on a silver platter. Also chiefs can interfere with potential marriages by objecting and misadvising the couples. These traditional marriages will be expensive and difficult to implement putting in mind that there was a marriage in Kenya which costed 100/- A chief may have a

Authorities should not let their guard down

Authorities should not let their guard  down  To leave your guard down is to relax your  defensive posture, which would leave you vulnerable to attack. There was a story in the newspapers that services is slow nowadays in government offices. This could be as a result of campaign season, as many officers are engaged. Also some officers are not discharging their duties or cannot be found in their offices. That notwithstanding, let other government agencies like KRA, KPA,Security, customs etc be alert always during this campaign time as some evil elements may take advantage of the laxity and harm the country or citizens. A friend was coming back from likoni and was crossing the ferry to town, when she saw some washing detergents being sold cheaply but with a foreign name. She decided to grab one. She came to work the next day with blisters on her fingers. The detergent has corrosive ingredients which caused red blisters in her fingers and skin. The washing detergent is still being sol

Let us kit our ladies decently

Let us kit our ladies decently Kenya was privileged to host the world under-18 Championship at Kasarani sports complex. There were over 25 nations competing in this world event. Kenya managed 4 gold 3 silver and 1 bronze bringing a total of 11 medals. Congratulations to Kenya Team of under-18. There was a record crowd of  up to  37,000 people on Friday,on Saturday  50,300 people and the climax on Sunday 55,000 people attended. It was a privilege for IAAF for giving Kenya an opportunity to host the world under-18 youth event. But what spoilt the broth was the kit the women wore during the championship. It exposed their nakedness and in Africa traditional culture, elders are not supposed to see the nakedness of a young lady. The organizers would have taken the opportunity to show case Kenya's wildlife, beaches and  tourists spots through the sports uniforms on behalf of Nike or Adidas. But in exposing the young girls nakedness that was wrong. Let Kenyan designers come up with Afr

Banks should scrap nuisance fees

Banks should scrap nuisance fees There was a capping of interest rates where Parliament passed the law. But banks are pushing the central bank to raise customers charges and the bank has had 16 requests so far to the central bank. How on earth do banks charge someone who deposits money in their banks? These charges have pushed Kenyans to use safaricom services and other unorthodox services as they are first, quick and cheap. Monetary policy committee of central Bank want lenders to focus on having  happy clients instead of money alone. Banks have been on the spot over allegations of imposing illegal levies on their customers since last year following the coming into force of the new law capping interest rates. It is a relief that the central governor insisted that banks need to review and scrap all "nuisance fees" imposed on customers. Banks should focus on on solving customers need which can attract sustainable revenues  instead of looking for shortcuts. At the moment the ec

Kenya has lost two leaders but their deeds and virtues outdo them

Kenya has lost two leaders but their deeds and virtues outdo them Kenya is mourning two leaders who passed away within weeks of one another. Their careers span over 40 years. Their services and contributions will be greatly missed. What is conspicuous about these leaders is that they were inspiration to others, selfless, approachable and generous. We now don't have such leaders. People depended on their advice and mentorship and they were down to earth who related well with individuals of all classes of the society and you could meet them in spite of their positions. They offered people employment and educated people they were not related to. The leaders we have now do not do such things. They also interacted with people of all ages and they loved their jobs, were hardworking which made them leave a mark in the country. Now the ball is in the court of those who have been left behind as some are aspiring to be politician and some are, will they emulate these great leaders who ha

What political benefit is this six-piece suit in voting

What political benefit is this six-piece suit in voting The six-piece suit originally consist  of a suit, half coat, shirt, vest and tie worn by fashionable men preferably British. The term has been adopted to  voting for the same coalition parties on all the six ballots namely member of parliament, senator, women's representative, county governor and county assembly representative in Kenya. Kenya's entire political structure could be in for a major overhaul. It is a strategy presidential candidates in this election are encouraging at the campaign’s onset for obvious reasons. The more coalition members in power, the easier governing will be. The early calls for a straight party-line vote have been met with charges of cynicism. This is like voting for candidates irrespective of the qualities and qualifications of the other candidates. Most of the leading candidates have backed away from the request, at least in public addresses. Not voting for a six piece derails the political pla

Political parties should explain the criteria used in nominations

Political parties should explain the criteria used in nominations The list of those nominated by parties as  M P's,Senators, youth,MCA's etc is out and it is not a story to go home with. The people nominated are friends and relatives of party leaders and elected official of the parties. I have scrutinized the names and l see no professor, architect, engineer, scientists, musician or footballers who have made Kenya proud. Neither have l seen artists, doctors, planners, members of the business community etc l also would have expected people like the makonde,a European or Asian community to be nominated as they also fought for our independence. What criteria was used in these nominations? How was the nomination process done? Those nominated, what do they have what Kenyans don't have? Was there an interview conducted ? These and many questions linger in the minds of Kenyans considering that some leaders nominated their children and brothers. lf 800 or more people applied, was i

USE RESOURCES TO PREACH PEACE AND SAVE KENYA

USE RESOURCES TO PREACH PEACE AND SAVE KENYA Debate media Limited, one of the presidential debate organizers stand to loose Ksh 200 million, and some 100 million cash and in advertisement should the courts halt the presidential debate. Meanwhile tension is building up in Kenya's largest slums and some counties have already been identified as possible  violence hotspots.  NCIC,E U, and KNCHR sounded a warning and echoed  that poll violence is likely in a month. What are we waiting for? Jameni !!! Let companies such as debate media and other organizations come together to use  millions  they are using for the debate to educate Kenyans the importance of peace. Politician will go but Kenya will remain. Let such organizations use such forums to preach peace and make banners, leaflets send people around to preach peace. Peace should also be preached in the media, schools, universities and work places. Before a campaign starts, let NCIC decree that a speaker must be appointed to preach pe

General elections has created jobs and freebies

General elections has created jobs and freebies The general election on 8th August has created jobs. These jobs include the hiring of personal security for the contestant who have been engaged to protect them and also these  politician hired  vehicles for campaign. Not to be left behind are the border border riders who have been hired to escorts contestants on campaign trial. Those who print T-shirts are also reaping from this campaign. Printers have benefitted in the campaign as politicians are printing posters, banners and hiring youth to stick the posters and banners for them. Entertainers of music and traditional dancers are also being hired to spice up campaigns and are also being paid. Politicians are also hiring people to appear in their meetings who end up with a few coins. Some elders from different communities have been either blessing, endorsing or making different aspirants elders and have also benefited in this campaign.  Bloggers  have also been paid to either paint a
