Counselling should continue in the day to day life of a policeman

The work of a policeman is very daunting. When there is a riot, someone has committed suicide,the police are called. When a body is fished from a river or sea or knocked down by a vehicle, it is the police who are called,despite the sight. When vehicles have had a bad accident,it is the police who are called to give a report. Their task involve carrying dead bodies from the scene of the accidents regardless of their state. That compounded with their normal cases,the police handle in their stations or night duty also await them. Policemen and women have to be Supermen to handle those situations. Another report mentions that what affects the police lives is their love life. Most of them do not live with their spouses. Look at those serving in the far flung areas of Lamu,Pokot,Turkana,Wajir,Tana river,Nyahururu,Mandera and Somali etc.These duties affect them psychologically. That when the police were called upon recently to stop Nairobi university students from rioting they express their anger by what people saw in videos. Also most Kenyans fear the police,that there is a saying that it is better to meet thugs at night than the police,thugs will rob you but the police will rob you and  torment you by not releasing you and even take you to cells. This has resulted in the change of the uniform of the police because of security reasons. There was the story of a teacher who was so harsh that when he used to call students even innocently, they used to come with their hands outstretched waiting to be canned. This happens also with the policemen,because in Kenya if you get a call that you are wanted by the police,drop all what you are doing and go,should you refuse and the police get you,you will regret for the rest of your whole life. Many policemen and women have committed suicide,they have killed innocent Kenyans that until a comprehensive programme which involve counselling is started that there will be some change. Also their salaries should be looked into,they should have good working conditions and lastly good housing. One policeman narrated to me how a fellow policeman raped his 7 years old daughter and the pain was that the policemen was out on bond and living right opposite his house. These houses they live in rob them their privacy,causing them to be stressed and have spouse conflict. The policemen listen to peoples problems at the station and no one is there to listen to their problems? The policemen settle scores by shooting themselves or others. People working with the disciplined forces risk long term mental ailments. It is upon the commission led by Mr Johnson kavuludu to review policemen remunerations to avoid these conflicts.
