Banks should renew ATM cards for free

When a person joins a bank,one of the items issued is an ATM card. But these cards have an expiry date and l don't know the reason why. Banks should remove the amount charged to customers as a result of expired cards. And whose fault is it? I read features of one bank in the just ended period of review and l noticed that Non-interest income comes from fees and commissions which grew by fifth to Sh 12.9billion in the period under review. My question is, how many people renew their cards every year in addition to those who loose their cards? This is a profit to banks which must be put into consideration and stopped forthwith. Loosing an ATM card is understandable, but renewing which is not a customers fault and be charged 650/- hard earned money is not fair at all. lmagine entering an ATM card machine and a person did not know that their card had expired, is not only disturbing but unsettles someone. For how long will customers be billed for their ATM cards by banks, is it for every 2 years, that is unacceptable. Let banks earn money through lending of money and other banking activities but not unorthodox means. Let banks stop this charging of renewing ATM cards or the 12th Parliament should come to the rescue of bank customers.
