Unpopular leaders will be elected because of selfish contestants

Unpopular leaders will be elected because of selfish contestants Kenya is a democratic country and everyone is eligible to stand for elections. But we have seen people who want to interfere with this election because of particular seats. One of the seat which is is generating a lot of heat is the Nairobi gubernatorial seat. ln Kenya those who desire to contest are those who are well off, leaving  people who are poor not able to contest. Nairobi gubernatorial seat has over 10 contestants who desire to be governors come 2017.The problem is that those who are poor and have qualities of a leader will not get a chance in the nomination. Those with political influence and have loads of cash will make sure they influence those who will be elected especially Nairobi and other areas in Kenya. Kenyans will end up choosing only those who will be on the ballot paper  and some maybe are unpopular leaders but are good in  rhetorics. This has led to constant squabbles among members of the same po

These political names should be abolished after elections

These political names should be abolished after elections As we near the general elections, there has been a lot of shenanigans such as naming of places because of their political affiliation. These areas have been given new baptism names which are not eco friendly and economically and socially acceptable. These names include Odm zone,Nasa zone, wiper zone,Jubilee zone,Kanu zone and swing votes etc. Our youth have been brought up  by different cultures and environment of being Kenyans and they are always surprised of tribalism perpetrated by our leaders. lt will be wrong in their future for the places they come from bandied such names. These names may hurt their search for jobs, tenders, contracts, friendship, marriages and education. So after August 2017,let it be prudent to stop using these names for the  benefit of Kenya's peace and unity. By Veronica Onjoro Mombasa

Kenyan politics are worth pesa nane

Kenyan politics are worth pesa nane As elections are nearing, many things have emerged regarding alignment and how tribes will vote. Kenyan are forced to endure the big tribes dominating the political scene year in year out. ln future let the 50% plus 1 rule which one must garner in order to be declared the president should be done away with, so that small tribes and people who are not rich and those who do not come from the big tribe be eligible for elections as presidents. Alternatively under the plurality formula, the candidate who received the most value votes in the elections is the winner. Unlike the absolute majority formula, plurality does not require a candidate to receive a total of 50 per cent plus 1 vote to win the elections. ln America if you have offered yourself for elections and you lose, you cannot be given another chance to seek re-elections. lt is a high time the big tribes which are catalyst in fanning chaos using their big tribes or tyranny of numbers be banned

Let the judiciary shelve installing 40 million WIFI project

Let the judiciary shelve installing 40 million WIFI project When you are criticized you grow. The Judiciary will spend Sh40 million on Wi-Fi services to boost efficiency of operations. The digitisation project, to be completed by March is claimed that it  will increase the number of stations already connected with Wi-Fi from 34 to 158. In its 2012/13 report, the Judiciary indicated it had already spent Sh 941 million on Information and Communications Technology within 21 stations. Some of the devices installed include  phones and cameras. Audiovisual recording and transcription systems were also installed in 35 courtrooms to reduce human error in recording proceeding. Today, the judiciary hires video conferencing services on need basis. My pertinent question is why use 40 million for WIFI while each judge and magistrate was given an IPad and a smartphone? why now the WIFI ? My take is, let them hire more judges and magistrate using that fund because it is immaterial for someone who ha

Politician who seek witchdoctors are a disgrace

Politician who seek witchdoctors are a disgrace I saw a video aired by one of the broadcasting station and l was shocked and tongue tied. If it is true that Kenyan politicians visit witchdoctors at night,Kenyans are in trouble and we should not vote for those doing so. These Kenyan politicians visit churches  and mosque in daytime and visit witchdoctor at night. The witchdoctor boasted that he knew who will win in particular seats in kenya. That is bullshit ! l recall a song by Kenny Rodgers  "Day time friends and nighttime lovers, Hoping no one else discovers, where they go-What they do ln their secret hideaway. Daytime friends and nighttime lovers They don't want to hurt the others So they love-ln the nighttime And shake hands in the light of day" That is what Kenyan  politicians are doing. The witchdoctor himself confessed that he gets visits at night and he goes to an extent of washing these politicians who want to be elected in Kenya. This means we Kenyans will be

Let August elections be free and fair

Let August elections be free and fair An MCA and a person aspiring to be an MP lost their lives  recently through murder in baringo and the police and the government should not rest till the killers are brought to book. This is not the way Kenya will should conduct themselves near to elections. In meru  Senator kiraitu and governor Munya are locked in the battle of who will win 2017 governorship. But the stories emerging that there was a meeting and a witchdoctor invited and he vowed to protect lawyer Kiraitu muriungi by killing those who don't vote for him is nonsensical and absurd.Meru people are peace loving and most of our politician do not want to leave elective seats to young people. But they still want to contest seats year in year out. How on earth do you convene a meeting  attended by more than 2,000 delegates from South Imenti, Igembe South, MP Mithika Linturi and Meru County Assembly deputy speaker Gideon Kimathi and a host of aspirants from the constituency and bri

Why this name in the phone?

Why this name in the phone? Safaricom has introduced a very good small light phone which is good for all purposes and can accept all mobile lines. But the irony of it,are the names given for the different ring tone for messages. One name is conspicuously the same as a part of a female body. This should be changed immediately. Let Safaricom be aware of the phones they import as some names are Unafrican. Imagine buying a phone for your father, mother, son and daughter etc and realizing that one name for a ring tone message cannot be uttered in public.Let Safaricom rectify this anomaly. Let us not embrace everything foreign. Let our university students or innovators come up with more Kenyan phones to avoid such situations. By Veronica Onjoro Mombasa

Kplc should be compelled to answer these queries

Kplc should be compelled to answer these queries Many complaints have been raised about Kplc services but  it seems that their human resource and customers care department do not care and are immune to complaints. They range from fluctuation of units and the amount paid, inflated bills, surging power, corrupt officials, black outs etc But the biggest complaint is with the people who got power in conjunction with Kplc and world bank. The application is free but each meter after the end of the first token there is a bill of sh 1500/- which must be cleared in order to continue getting tokens. lf Kplc has connected over 1 million households even in the rural areas and they must pay sh 1500/- for the meter, how much is Kplc reeking in profits? Kenyans signed the agreement yes, but sh 1500/- bill in the meter and a person is still using the meter, is not prudent at all. lf they have recouped their expenses why don't they stop these deductions ? These deductions are making Kenyans poor

Mombasa leaders should turn over a new leaf

Mombasa leaders should turn over a new leaf Mombasa county has in the recent past seen a lot of altercation between leaders who are mandated to lead from the front but they are instead squabbling. This impedes development and unity of purpose. Let religious leaders be concerned about these situations and call the leaders in a forum and bringing reconciliation among them. No one is perfect and Mombasa residents are not happy that leaders in Mombasa do not see eye to eye. Mombasa may lag behind in terms of development and infrastructure as these leaders sometimes are needed to tackle together problems such as lack of water, insecurity and the hunger ravaging various counties. It a high time that reconciliation was done by religious leaders so that Mombasa residents can get service delivery from their leaders. 1 peter 4:8 says above all, keep loving one another earnestly since love covers a multitude of sins. Mathew 5:24  Leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconc

What do Kenyan politician go to do in a church

Image
What do Kenyan politician go to do in a church It is a pity that Kenyan politician go to churches to declare their candidature in politics, escort people who want to contest or be seen in the news that they went to certain churches. This week it was worse as two candidates vying for the same seat met in a church and started throwing barbs against one another in church while people laughed. There are particular churches these politician frequent in which they are allowed to greet the congregation(campaign) in church. What these politician are doing is not good before God.That is why politician and the common people are separated by beatitudes which say that blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed ar

LET PASTORALISTS PLANT TREES ON THE ONSET OF RAIN AND DIG WELLS

LET PASTORALISTS PLANT TREES ON THE ONSET OF RAIN AND DIG WELLS According to a November 2016 report published by the National Drought Management Authority, pastoralists in arid regions have suffered huge losses. Many animals have died and that is what they depend on. But we are in catch 22 situation. The herders have invaded private ranches with impunity and there has been loss of lives as well as some who have been injured and property looted and some burnt. Wild life have also been affected as poachers have taken advantage of the confusion and killed elephants, giraffes,Buffaloes and other endangered animals. I shed tears when l saw the destruction of properties and investments as a result of invasion by herders and we are heading to the general election. This invasion can spark very bad consequences. Let us avoid these situations and leaders should learn to preach peace always. This is unacceptable as Kenyans should strive to live in harmony with one another an

LET MOMBASA STADIUM BE IN A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT

Image
LET MOMBASA STADIUM BE IN A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT Mombasa county is the second town after Nairobi county and it receives very many visitors both for sports and culture. A cursory visit around an important area used for cultural activities, which is the stadium reveals that the place is under construction now over 4 years. Mombasa residents who were around since the 1990's have very good memories  of the stadium and  remember with nostalgia what went on in the stadium. Mombasa county stadium has nurtured careers and played a big role of hosting both local and international events. It has also been a pivot point in primary and secondary games and hosting of national events, where locals have been attending. Those participating started their assemble outside the stadium. Most political meetings have been done in the  municipal stadium. Some athletes started their big journey from the stadium. All football matches both local and international have graced the county

Let the court annexed medication process (camp) help reduce cases

Image
Let the court annexed medication process (camp) help reduce cases The commercial division of the high court of appeal has resolved 25 cases with a total value  of sh 145 million within 10 months it has been in operational,as part of its intention to clear a backlog of disputes that drag on for years. A mediator assists the parties in working out a settlement that both can agree to. Such a settlement agreement is put in writing and signed by the parties, becoming a contract of sorts. 139 cases have been referred to the commercial division of the high court. A time has come when Kenyans should embrace mediation in order to solve disputes. Court cases breed hatred between those whose cases are judged in court. Even in the bible it says that, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar,go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.Settle with your opponent quickly while o

Investigate deaths of university students

Image
Investigate deaths of university students It is unfortunate that Kenya's university community keep losing very bright and promising student in our universities. There are very many mysterious deaths of students which keep occurring week after week. In a spate of three weeks, three university student have lost their lives. This is a heartbreak to parents who have invested heavily I'm their children even selling their land to secure places for their children. Most deaths occur  during fights, poisoning, stabbing, overindulgence in drinks and use of drugs, while some as a result of drowning. When these students were in high schools the teachers took great care of the children by making sure they are of good behavior were counseled time and again. But with the busy schedule of lecturer no one is concern with the well being of these students. Therefore they end up walloping in drugs and liquor. Most weekends university students engage in taking alcohol and other substances which are a
