A report that maize production in Rift valley and transzoia counties declined from 21 million  bags last year 2015 to 16 million bags this year 2016 is not true.They cite factors like erratic weather conditions and increased cost of farm inputs that resulted in some farmers planting their crops without applying the nutrients is not factual.In Transzoia County maize is being sold a tin called "gorogoro" for 50/- bob.This is a 2 kilogram tin with some additions. A 1kg packet of maize is 60/-while a 2kg packet is 100/-  How much are the maize millers getting as profit instead of a Kenyan farmer?Come planting season, conmen will go to farmers to sell them fake fertilizers but because God hears the prayers of farmers God changes the end results.They have to do with no farm inputs,erratic weather etc When they take their farm produce (maize) to  NCPB,they are forced to make long  lines with their hired vehicles and they pay 100/- per bag per day.This eats in their profits considering the work they do in harvesting the maize, as people have to be paid to asssist.Farmers have urged NCPB to go to the interior to collect maize from farmers who have the maize but no money for transport to NCPB depots.Let the CS in charge of Agriculture look into these complaints so that farmers enjoy farming and their hard earned sweat.The prices of fertilizers should also come down because this maize feeds the whole country.As l am writing this,some farmers have told me they have not shelled their maize because of the hullabaloos.Therefore more maize is still out there,if the government is serious in buying the maize from the farmers,let them go to the farmers.
