Healthy eating patterns include a combination of healthy choices from across all food groups while paying attention to calorie limit.A healthy diet helps maintain or improve overall health. This may include proteins,carbohydrates,vitamins and minerals.A healthy diet provides the body with essential nutrition such as fluid, macronutrients, micronutrients, and adequate food energy.A healthy diet may also contain fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and may include little to no processed food or sweetened beverages. The requirements for a healthy diet can be met from a variety of plant-based and animal-based foods, although a non-plant source of vitamin B12 is needed for those following a vegan diet.ln Kenya indigenous food like arrow roots,sweet potatoes,night shade,Amaranthus,black eyed pea,nuts,jute mallow,shepherd,spider plant are rarely bought or eaten by the young generation in their homes or hotels.lndigenous fruits include ovacado,pawpaws,oranges,guavas,jack fruits,custard apples,almond,mangoes,Chinese apples,melon etc.Fruits are a vital source or fibre and contain vitamin Cans help in vitamin deficiency.Research has shown that healthy dietary patterns can reduce risk of high blood pressure heart disease,diabetes, and certain cancers. Dietary patterns such as the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet and the mediterranean diet, which are mostly plant-based, have demonstrated significant health benefits and reduction of chronic disease.Berries are high in fiber and are naturally sweet, and their rich colors mean they are high in antioxidants and disease-fighting nutrients. The super food include legume,fish,leafy greens, nuts, olive oil,hole grains,yogurt and cruciferous vegetables.To maintain a healthy weight a person should exercise regularly,not smoke,eat a healthy diet,no drinking alcohol but drinking only in moderation if at all.Also people should protect themselves from the sun and also conduct screening tests.Young people are constantly eating chips,chicken,burgers and pizza.Rarely do they patronize hotels selling indigenous foods.What about the children being born today,most children may lack these nutrients as a results of their parents not eating indigenous foods.These food can contribute to weight gain and have other harmful effects on peoples health. They can be high in dietary cholesterol and saturated fat. Dietary cholesterol and saturated fat can raise levels of cholesterol in blood and increase risk of heart diseases.Therefore during this Covid -19 period for a person to guard against diseases,it is essential to eat indigenous food and fruits.
