Silent M P's and Senators should be recalled

There are currently 290 members elected by registered votes , 47 women elected by registered voters from the counties, 12 members nominated by parliamentary political parties to represent special interests of youth, persons with disabilities and workers, and the Speaker of the National Assembly. According to a 2020 Parliamentary Scorecard released by Mzalendo Trust that focuses on 2020 amid Coronavirus pandemic 175 MPs made less than 10 contributions in the plenary, translating to 50 per cent of the House, only 125 MPs spoke between 10-50 times equivalent to 37 per cent and 33 members contributed over 50 times amounting to 9 per cent. 31 Members failed to make any contribution in the plenary compared to 21 in 2019 while in the Senate, the number of silent members rose marginally by two, to three, compared to one in 2019.Some of the MP's did not attend parliamentary session regularly.9 Women Representative never uttered a word on the floor of the House in the same period. This report that there are silent members in the Senate and Parliament in the last session is not only shocking but unbelievable. Many Kenyans braved the morning chill to go and  elect these members of Parliament and the Senate but the report by mzalendo trust dampens the spirit of those who had high hopes in them. They have not only failed themselves but the people who elected them.

Newspapers, media, bloggers and the social media are doing a better job than those whom they elected in parliament. They work day and night highlighting problems afflicting kenyans.Because they have failed to do what they were elected to do,let them be recalled. The salaries and allowances they get at the expense of taxpayers a result of being in parliament could have been channelled to students who have been sent out of school or hospitals which lack medicine and essential equipment to treat the sick.Their silence is very loud  that it has contributed to lack of jobs, school fees, bad roads, insecurity, lack of water, corruption, lack of food, lack of health facilities etc

In Parliament only 22 bills,6 motions,52 petitions and 363 statements were tabled in 2020 in a Country with over 40 million people. This is a very small number compared to those representative in Parliament or Senate.

Some of the silent members of Parliament are the most vocal outside Parliament on business which does not help those whose elected them. Kenyans next year should not repeat this mistake again. This will result in failure to achieve vision 2030.
