A GREAT PEN HAS STOPPED WRITING


Leo odero omolo was a veteran journalist and a great writer cum author who started writing from the late 50’s. Leo odero omolo's wealth of experience in writing books dates back from 1959. He used to write about the rich  social  life,customs,fiction,   folklore,   children   adventure and African   literature in   both English and Kiswahili. He was a prominent leader, journalist and hero from Suba community. He came from Homa Bay town –Abasuba to be precise. He attended Bugema High School. He is also the author of many children books in both Kiswahili and English. He published 17 works in 63 publications in 3 languages and 227 library holdings; He published 40 Swahili books, 15 English books and one Luo book.  His books include –Tajiri Mjanja-first edition 1967and also -1971 9th  edition,Talking devil 2nd  edition –first published-1967,Taabu   za   mambo-5th    edition1969,Onyango’s   triumph   6th    edition1968,Mfalme   namajitu-1972,Wajinga ndio waliwao-1970,Mikasa ya joseph juma-1971,Mtaka yote hukosa yote-1968,Wajinga ndio waliwao-1971.Mwerevu hajinyoi-1971, The rainmaker and other stories 6th   edition 1971,Ya mungu ni mengi 2nd  edition 1972,Uhalifu   haulipi   (LLT)-1971,The   talking   devil   and   other   stories,4th edition (East African readers library- 1969), Kisa cha hamisi 4th  edition 1968 and 1970,Mtu mwenye miwani meusi 3rd  edition-1970,Shujaa na nyati-1972.
His books taught young readers to read and he also developed reading materials in variety of languages, Kiswahili as well as English. He taught manners and customs.He also published educational books like-NCSF-CPT Exams and CPSM effective supply management performance.
 Leo odero omolo’s books were read in both Tanzania and Kenya. He published with longhorn,sasa sema and amazon publishers. Leo odero omolo was a journalist who knew President Obama and did business with both the late Mboya and the late Jaramogi oginga odinga. Leo odera omolo served   many   media   houses   in   Kenya   and   at   some   time   acted   as   foreign   international correspondent for various newspapers abroad and radio stations. He also used to write for the jaluo.com online news site and many other publications. His books contained laughter, noise,drama, fright,food, parents, magic  and  fantasy,  adventure,  conflicts  and  how  to  resolve  them,grandparents, animals, school and siblings.  He used a lot of  pictures and  illustrations to make his books interesting to the young people and what happens in a day to day life of students in school. Leo odera omolo’s  books  were  good and they taught  reading, culture and  they provided escapist delight. He became a good teacher of reading and writing even if he was a journalist. He died on 7th  June 2017 and will be buried on 23rd friday June 2017.  Kenya has lost a journalist and writer who wrote for over 57 years, a hero, a correspondent and a great teacher. May the lord rest his soul in eternal peace.
