Kenyan T V interviews lacks passion
A good T V interviewer, is the one who has sufficient knowledge about the interview he/she is taking. T V Interviewers should have adequate experience and necessary training to conduct interview effectively and efficiently. Good interviewers are attentive listeners. They listen more than they talk. The interviewer should be free from biasness and undue emotions. He/she should have the ability to judge the situation based on logic and wisdom. Empathy is the ability to understand or share feelings or attitudes of others. Successful interviewer is one who can identify the best combination of individual talents and qualities. Interviewers should ask questions one at a time and not rush the interviewee to respond by allowing the interviewee time to think and respond and keeping the questions as brief as possible so that what they are asking will be clear to the interviewee. Also they should ask as many open ended questions as possible. These questions encourage the interviewee to tell stories ,they should listen actively to the interviewee’s answers and then ask follow up questions. But Kenyan interviewers contradict or correct interviewee and also they do not keep personal opinions to themselves. Some even ask leading questions or even rush to end the interviews. Recent interviews on T V have not gone well, as some interviewers prodded the interviewees, put words in the mouths of interviewees, shocked the interviewees with personal embarrassing questioned, shouted and repeated the questions they wanted most answered. The interview on T V at night should take like half an hour or 45 minutes but some take two hours making the interviewee tired and unable to respond properly to questions.lf the interview is composed of many interviewees,it is good to give each interviewee quality time. Interviews should reveal something real and true about someone. Kenyan interviewers should ask insightful questions, learn the story of the person they are interviewing and ask questions that add value. They should know how to pause as it adds value to the questions being asked. Let the interviewer use clear English and not words twisted in the mouth to communicate with the interviewer. Listening and making the other person feel important wins interviews.
