  Traders in kitale town have little space to do business It was a shock when Kenya Railways reclaimed land which had been not in use in Kitale town.The traders had built business places such as shops,booking offices, hotels,washrooms etc.The corporation said​ that the businesses, m ost of which had been constructed as permanent structures and valued at millions of shillings, encroached on land​ it owns.​ Some residents were caught unawares with some threatened retaliation on the de molishion.Some residents were teargased when they held demonstrations against the move by KRC. It is not clear whether they were given sufficient notice to vacate the land as some were seen trying to salvage their properties from the rubble.
