Women have got a raw deal in the naming of deputy governors

Women have got a raw deal in the naming of deputy governors. We have very few women who have declared to stand for the seat of Governors. They have also chosen men as running mate.  Only two aspirant of governorship are the only ones who have named a women as a their deputies and are new comers to this race, the rest of the contestants in governor's race have named fellow men except governor tunai and mvurya are the only ones who have stuck to their former deputy governors who are women. ln the first elections of devolution most governors chose women, but now they have chosen otherwise. Let this be a lesson to women. Let women smell the coffee and know that men in Kenya do not regard women as leaders. Most voters are women.Let women vote with their heart not their brains. If you educate a woman you educate the whole community. So the whole community will miss services of women because of this discrimination and the gender bill has never been passed in Parliament. A shift from Aid to trade by Netherlands will not benefit all Kenyans

A shift from Aid to trade by Netherlands will not benefit all Kenyans I read an article in the DN 24/5 written by the ambassador of Netherlands that the country has now shifted from giving Kenya aid to trading with Kenya with a lot of sadness. Netherlands,Britain, USA, France,China, and other European countries are superpowers and help Kenya in one way or another and if they choose to trade with Kenya only, when will Kenya's education standards, health and water improve? Education can bring significant benefits to society, not only through higher  employment opportunities and income but also via enhanced skills, improved  social status and access to networks. By fully recognising the power of education, policy makers could better address diverse societal challenges. Mombasa county to Nairobi highway road is a joke

Mombasa county to Nairobi highway road is a joke Stand on thika road flyovers and see how motorist drive to their destinations at ease. There are three lanes with enough space and you will admire. Now imagine boarding a bus from Nairobi and proceeding to Mombasa, this is a sheer hell. This is an international commercial road which is used by many landlocked countries in the interior such as Sudan,Uganda,Rwanda,Burundi etc The road becomes bad just after mtito wa ndei. Those who use this road suffer from delays, potholes, accidents and sharing of the road with traffic from those coming from Nairobi and those coming from Mombasa and vice versa. And when you reach where they are constructing a new road that is when hell break loose. Those in the bus are thrown helter skater for about 1 hour until where the bus joins the main road. Why are they constructing only one road? Why is it taking ages to finish? There is enough space for dual carriageway ( two roads) but someone has not seen the

Let coast hotels promote domestic tourism to curb unemployment

Let coast hotels promote domestic tourism to curb unemployment April,August and December are the peak period of hotels industry at the coast and upcountry towns. When hotel owners are interviewed during this time, they report that their hotels are fully booked and surprisingly mostly by Kenyans. International tourists coming to Kenya have declined by half since 2011.So it upon the hotel owners to take advantage of domestic tourists. But  come January, may and September hotels report that their hotels  are empty and they are laying off their workers. This is immaterial. Cotu and FKE should protect workers from such harassment at all cost from being laid off during these months off peak months. Why don't they save for the rainy days instead of laying off their workers every now and again. Alternatively the workers can be trained like the insurance agents who lure and recruit people for the various insurance policies, by selling the packages of like one day,one week,a month to bus

Postal Kenya should change towards modern way of operations

Postal Kenya should change towards modern way of operations I am greatly disappointed whenever l visit my post box as  l hardly get any letter or notification. I maintain the post box because in Kenya when filling government documents you must indicate a post office box. Business has not been good to postal corporation because of mobile communication gadgets which have transformed the world. The mobile phones combined with the Internet sends faster messages than the tradition of having a post office boxes. Recently postal corporation increased the rates of payment except individual boxes. This is uncalled for !  What ails postal corporation in Kenya is lack of ideas and creativity. Any increase of rates is not worth it,as the services remain the same day in day out. Why does the postal corporation does not have a provision where they can deliver letters and parcels to peoples homes and business premises like abroad? Getting a  postal stamp after 6.00 pm  in Kenya is a hurdle. Let

Will the government provide all politicians security?

Will the government provide all politicians security? There was a statement by nyandarua OCPD that all politicians cleared to contest in the August general elections, except MCA's will be provided with security. Is this true? Let us now do some arithmetics. There are 47 counties and some seats have  over 10 contestants, for example in one county there are 100 aspirants, will all of them be provided with security? Will this security involve going to their homes and guarding them? During this time leading to elections,Kenyans need security the most and if security all officers will be guarding politician, security in Kenya will deteriorate. Cases of robbery especially the use of guns has been on the rise. So it is immaterial for only security to be given to the politician, forgetting that,as they  plunged themselves into politics, they have some money set aside in which they can provide themselves with private security. The late Prof Saitoti once said that the country is more imp

Raila's picture in Jerusalem western wall is impressive

Raila's picture in Jerusalem western wall is impressive The general elections in August have brought both good and bad tiding. The good tiding is seeing Kenya's opposition chief Raila odinga praying at the Jerusalem western wall. This site is sacred to all three Abrahamic religions, Judaism, Islam and Christianity and it is a very strong symbolism of strength and unity.  Let all politician of all walks of life and of different denominations emulate Raila odinga  come before God and repent their sins and ask God for guidance in this coming general elections and peace in Kenya. Can they write pieces of paper with messages to God every time they visit their churches, temples and mosques and  stick on the wall of their hearts and say a prayer so that the messages go directly to God? That picture of Raila odinga is the best l have ever seen recently of our politician putting God first in his undertaking and prayers. Let  all Kenyans do a Nineveh so that we are rid of these calamity bed

The Queen can drive herself, what about Kenyan politicians

The Queen can drive herself, what about Kenyan politicians It was a spectacular story from England accompanied by pictures which showed the Queen of England, that despite her advanced age of 90 years old she was driving herself to and from church. One senator from Mombasa once revealed that he did not know how to drive. What a shame ! It is also a shame that in Kenya all CEO's,M P's,senators, governors and some people high up in the society have drivers at their disposal and they have to be driven to and fro. Although this is a creation of jobs, but the taxpayers are the ones who are burdened. Universities in Kenya should have a provision of teaching driving as one of the skills to be acquired for students. This is an important skill because in future a person will be required to have a driving licence in order to get a job any job. In the next police recruitment, all the policemen and women should be trained how to drive a car. A person can save a life through knowing how t

Relationship between President Trump and France President macron

Relationship between President Trump and France President macron If both Presidents Trump and Macron were gunning for leadership in Africa, they would not have been elected. In Africa when someone wants to be a leader, they first ask very intimate questions like, is he married, what age is his wife, how many children does he have etc Leaders in Africa must fulfill some traditional obligations, like they must be people without any blemish or scandal. But both Presidents Trump and macron have been elected by voters who need their countries to return as it was long ago and most voters are the young people in their countries. Both Presidents acknowledged the part played by their spouses in their campaigns and elections. Both spouses were advisors and influenced them. There is a big difference in the ages of the Presidents and their wives. Both President Trump and macron have a similar business background, and both are non-traditional and non-ideological leaders who claim to lead a mov

DEAR ASPIRANT

DEAR ASPIRANT Congratulations aspirant for being chosen by voters to represent your party in the August general elections. Do not celebrate yet. Did you know majority of Kenyans did not vote? Did you know only voters from your political party voted for you ? Did you know people without I D's also voted? Do you know chances of being elected in August are 50- 50.Some of you were rigged in,some bribed voters, some bribed returning officers, some stuffed boxes, some were favoured by their parties and some were lucky that day. Let you not celebrate soon. Don't be surprised for the independent candidate to beat you fair and square. You can fool some people sometimes, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. Kenyans during August elections may prefer a candidate who has no strings attached and that is an independent candidate. Some candidates gave out bribes and in the main general elections, will they bribe all the voters? Do you know it is an electoral offence? By the wa

When will women become leaders in Kenya

When will women become leaders in Kenya There is an uproar over the nomination of Raila odinga's brother, nominated MP Oburu odinga and Kalonzo musyoka's son as nominee to the East African Legislative Assembly. The good news is that nominated Oburu odinga has rejected the nomination. My concern is not the brother of Raila odinga nor the son of Kalonzo musyoka,it is the gender balance. At least they would have nominated their wives, sisters or daughters, l would have supported them but there is no gender balance. Women are getting a raw deal in Kenyan politics. Look at France, they have chosen a man as a president instead of the woman. Will the gender bill be honoured in Parliament? Kenya's women presidential materials have been forced to vie for lesser post of governorship because of this prejudice. Kenyans do not value women leadership. Veronica Onjoro Mombasa

Kenyan T V interviews lacks passion

Kenyan T V interviews lacks passion A good T V interviewer, is the one who has sufficient knowledge about  the interview he/she is taking. T V  Interviewers should have adequate experience and necessary training to conduct interview effectively and efficiently.  Good interviewers are attentive listeners. They listen more than they talk.  The interviewer should be free from biasness and undue emotions. He/she should have the ability to judge the situation based on logic and wisdom.  Empathy is the ability to understand or share feelings or attitudes of others.  Successful interviewer is one who can identify the best combination of individual talents and qualities. Interviewers should a sk questions one at a time and not rush the interviewee to respond by allowing the interviewee time to think and respond and k eeping the questions as brief as possible so that what they are asking will be clear to the interviewee. Also they should  ask as many open ended questions as possible. The

Why does Kenya prefer foreign CEO's

Why does Kenya prefer foreign CEO's Kenya Airways has hired a polish veteran of the aviation industry to lead the national carriers turnaround plan. He is expected to take over the airline's group managing and chief executive by June 1st.KQ 's board chairman is michael  joseph. Safaricom is headed by Bob collymore, mumias  sugar was headed by Errol Johnson.Norwegian Johnny Anderson heads Kenya Airports Authority,BAT has Keith Gretton and CFO has John Tombleson among others. Why do we now have very many foreign CEO’s in Kenya? There must be a reason companies are hiring foreign CEO's. The main challenges to doing business in the country include political anxiety towards the upcoming general elections, bureaucracy, competition and challenges in accessing capital.”The World Bank’s Enterprise Survey 2013, identified practices of the informal sector, corruption and political Instability as the top business environment obstacles for firms in Kenya. We only believe that foreigne

This rise of prices of essential commodities and retrenchment is a suspect

This rise of prices of essential commodities and retrenchment is a suspect Never in the history of Kenya has maize meal and sugar prices has ever reached the level they are now. This week sugar is 160/- while maize meal is 145/- potatoes 100/- while tomatoes and onions have tripled in prices to name but a few. Why are the prices of commodities gone so high during this electioneering period? Many Kenyans are sleeping hungry as they cannot afford the basic commodities. Surprisingly MP mwaura said  that he used 29 million in his campaign while aspirant women rep passaris also claimed she used 10 million and these are just two of the recent contestants in the party nominations, how much was used by other contestants in this campaign ? Has this campaign resulted in the high prices of commodities? This problem of high rise of commodities was a subject of discussions during the labour day  celebration by Mr Atwoli, sonko and governor kidero. Why has no action been taken? A while ago there wa

Why are Kenyans electing people without integrity ?

Why are Kenyans electing people without integrity ? During our days we used to view politician as noise makers, unkempt, those who did not make it in school and those who made us laugh or cartoonist. Because some fought in and out of parliament and the shocking statements they sometimes issued. But shockingly and surprisingly professors, doctors and engineers have joined the bandwagon of people wanting to be nominated by parties to vie for elections. But as macharia gaitho  of DN wrote on Tuesday, that we wilfully and consciously elected thieves, looters, fraudsters, sexual predators, ethnic warmongers, bandits, narcotic traffickers, violent extremists etc  What did we see in these people? Why do voters  prefer to vote for such people who have had a brush with the law? They see a fearless person,a person ready to defend him/herself instead of a polished person, who will tell you many stories and take  you are round but not help you. They also prefer a person who can defend their party without
