 Our Leaders cannot be compared to the "Good shepherd"



This week's reading is about the good shepherd in the Catholic church.I have linked the good shepherd with today's politicians and to say the least they fail badly.Any true leader will lead by example. It is not a case of “do as I say, not as I do.” True leaders must be worthy models to follow. A good shepherd is visible,speaks to his flock and the sheep can recognize their gentle voice.A good shepherd protects his flock,nurtures them,points to where there is good pastures and guides their path.Also a good shepherd leads them by the front.Also a good shepherd will not like his flock to get lost, that out of 100 if one gets lost,the good shepherd leaves the 99 to look for the one sheep which is lost.Our politicians are opposite of the good shepherd.They were the first to be vaccinated against Covid 19,they earn huge salaries and allowances,their flocks are jobless and have no food.They continue politicking at the expense of the Corona pandemic till his Excellency President Uhuru had to lock Counties.A good shepherd is supposed to lay down their lives to his/her flock.Not our politician who do not protects Kenyan citizens from high prices of commodities.“I am the gate for the sheep” (John 10:17). A good shepherd leads the flock into a protected enclosure and then sleeps in the opening of the sheepfold. He becomes the gate and personally blocked the entryway. Any wild animal seeking to harm the sheep could only enter through the gate guarded by the shepherd.Our politicians have literally blocked their homestead from their electorate.They are not visible and seeing or getting them is next to impossible.True leaders provide for the real needs of those they lead.They do not fire them without caring about what happens to them. When it comes to a leader's choices, a person is more important than a profit. A leader acts in a way that gives “life” to those he or she leads (John 10:10) True leaders have a clear vision for the future and live toward it.A true leader is also strives to be a servant leader unlike our leaders in Kenya today.In 2022 the choice is yours.
